The Ali Sacco Memorial Fund
is planning a cocktail party and silent auction to celebrate 10 years of
Discovery in Ali’s name "Celebration for Sweet Hearts” on Saturday, February 1,
2014, 6 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Grace Hotel in Newport, RI.
Ali was born with a rare and complicated congenital heart defect. Through the dedication of Boston Children’s Hospital and their "cutting edge” research she and we were gifted with 16 years of a normal childhood. While we lost her too soon, Ali lived very well and we would like to continue to do our small part in giving other families hope. This becomes even more important as the landscape of healthcare changes.
The proceeds of the fund and its events support two initiatives: a program that supports a network of Pediatric Cardiology Departments around New England and the Ali Sacco Internship. Both programs are supervised directly by Audrey Marshall, MD, Director of Invasive Cardiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital
The program allows the pediatric cardiologists at Children’s Hospital to share their cutting edge methods with other pediatric cardiologists throughout New England. This program helps to speed diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects found in New England’s children, while offering a comfortable setting close to home. We are delighted that the funds generated from the ALI FUND will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children of New England.
THE ALI SACCO INTERNSHIP allows a rising senior from the Portsmouth Abbey School to spend two weeks at Boston Children’s Hospital, shadowing Harvard Medical School faculty and conducting research; a valuable experience that promotes a curiosity for discovery in medicine. Please feel free to look at the student accounts of their experience on the Portsmouth Abbey School web site.
