Everyone at Boston Childrens Hospital understands the emotions my son goes through, he was devastated that this was happening to him. This was not logical to him, he would look them straight in the face and say "ok, fix it" and didn't understand why that wasn't possible. They treat him with dignity and respect, listening and answering his every question patiently and kindly. They don't treat me as ignorant because I have so many questions and don't have the medical knowledge to understand. They are kind and patient, they want to answer our questions. The people are real and genuine, they don't have to say they care, you see them care. One night, the anesthesiologist came to my son's room, when his shift was over, just to hang out with him for a few hours! The ER nurse came up another day to visit him. The child life specialists spend all day entertaining children trying to keep their lives as normal as possible. The nurses, the staff, the doctors, the artists, the social workers- all these people and more working together to get my child well and make the journey bearable for all of us.
We go to the hospital for appointments, tests and treatments. So many kind people we have met. So many sick children, so many in much worse condition. Their parents always chin up, trying to keep smiling for them. So many people from all over the world, so many stories.
I find peace today because our Boston Childrens Hospital family makes my son being well and living a normal childhood their priority. His doctors include some of the leading researchers in the country. If there is a new or better way to treat my son, I know it will happen at Boston Children's Hospital. I count my blessings that Boston Children's Hospital is in our backyard, we are all so lucky!
Boston Children's has been nationally ranked as one of the best pediatric hospitals for almost two decades. Doctors manage more than 500,000 patient visits every year – and many of these kids have health problems no other hospital in the world can handle. Every day, the doctors and nurses at Boston Children's combine courage, creativity and compassion to provide life-changing care.
I hope you will consider supporting this fundraising effort and the kids at Boston Children's.
