The Steven J. Vertuccio Memorial Fund established in 2006 is an annual Community Fundraiser to benefit Boston Children's Hospital. Steve diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 27 received all of his care at Boston Children's Hospital; not only was he a patient but he was also a mentor for many young kids living with CF. Steve knew that living a healthy lifestyle would pro-long his life with CF, he ate a healthy diet, worked out regularly and also performed treatments several times a day. Sadly at the age of 37 Steve lost his battle with CF but his name lives strong at Boston Children's Hospital.
Since 2006 the Vertuccio family has been hosting annual community fundraisers to benefit the CF Center at Boston Children's Hospital, funds donated have been used to set-up instant messaging systems in all the patients rooms on the CF floor (CF patients cannot be within 3 feet of each other due to germs). Funds have also been used for patient advocacy and staff training/education. In 2010 Boston Children's Hospital developed a new exercise program in conjunction with Brigham and Woman's Hospital; this exercise program named after Steve, "The Steven J. Vertuccio Wellness Program” is now the standard exercise protocol for all CF patients nationwide.
