Dear friends and family ... it's that time of year when I ask for your support to help me reach my goal for this year's NSTAR's Walk for Boston Children's Hospital. You are always so generous and I want you to know how much I appreciate it. Boston Children's is an amazing place! Every week there's some story in the news about a miracle that has happened here through a unique surgical procedure or cutting edge research project that will cure sickle cell disease or lead us closer to a cure for alzeimers. It's been a tough year for hospitals given the cuts in medicare and medicaid and the needed actions to cut healthcare costs. Children's has been on the forefront of this movement, cutting hundreds of millions of dollars over the past two years. What this means is that many of the non-reimburseable programs ... mental health, child life services, community health, and new research to name a few, are now more dependent on philanthropy then ever before. These are critical programs to the health of families and children and your support of my walk goes directly to support these efforts. It does not go to overhead - it goes to care and research.
